Living Conditions of the Rohingya Muslims

In August 2017, human rights violations, violence, and more contraventions caused thousands of Rohingya to flee from their home in Myanmar, Rakhine State. For several weeks, the crowded groups of refugees had to go through unhealthy and dangerous situations for the sake of finding a place to live. Things seemed to have gotten better when they arrived at Cox's Bazar, although according to some research, it was way harder to live in the world’s largest refugee camp in the world. Escaping from their hometown does not mean they are no longer afraid of death, to be more clear, it is as challenging as it was in Rakhine State. Medical assistance is poor due to the large scale of people, therefore in an urgent or life-threatening situation, there is only a slight possibility of saving the patient.

One of the other matters is having few job opportunities that are not rewarded equally for their work. The limited access to education, crime and violence, both physical and mental illnesses, and especially the killing of the leaders of Rohingya is on the rise. The sum and the substance of it is Lack of Rights.

Rohingya Camp Fire

On the 25th of March 2023, the fire in Rohingya (as known as Cox’s Bazar) Camp that impacted over 15,000 people and 2,800 shelters started. Searches tell that it was one of the biggest fires ever to happen within the camp boundaries since 2021. From 2021 to 2023, over 222 fire incidents happened 60 of it to be arson. According to the Government of Bangladesh, the number of arsons is all that while human rights activists and UN organizations are saying the opposite numbers.

Rohingya Genocide

After the Myanmar Military started the “Clearance Operation” with the help of Buddhists, over 130 Rohingyas were slaughtered in the first week. The Rohingya started to emigrate even though it was not successful due to the Military actions started fires in their path, using machine guns on the civilians. By the second week, more than 1000 people were killed. According to another research, over 6700 people were killed in any kind of crime that is against humanity.

Gang Rapes and Sexual Harassment

In 2017, Human Rights Watch reported a 15-year-old girl who was dragged on the ground for over 15.24 meters and raped by 10 Burmese Military members. Before and after this incident, the number of rapes and sexual harassment never decreased, in fact, it did increase with the help of the Buddhist community. However, today everything is shown despite the censorship of publication.
