Introduction

Who are the Rohingya?

The Rohingya are an ethnic Muslim group, living in Myanmar up until now. Notwithstanding their existence in Myanmar for centuries, the Burmese Government is not recognizing the Rakhine State members as an official ethnic group. In addition, having been denied their citizenship since 1982, the Rohingya are entitled as the “World’s largest stateless population”. Being a stateless population comes with many problems such as the unprotection of basic rights, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
